Are you looking to deepen your Italian language skills while engaging with the country’s rich cultural heritage? Our Italian Language & Culture summer program is designed specifically for students at the intermediate to advanced intermediate levels (200-300 level) of Italian. This summer, we welcomed 12 students for 6 weeks to dive into Italian culture in the city of Perugia. The intensive Italian through culture program is one of the highlights of The Umbra Institute’s summer offerings.
Program Duration and Structure
Our summer program spans several weeks, with classes and activities scheduled four days each week. This allows for a balanced combination of structured learning and free time, enabling you to explore Italy both through guided experiences and personal adventures. The flexible schedule is perfectly suited for students who wish to make the most of their time abroad without feeling overwhelmed.
Who Should Apply?
This program is tailored for students who have already achieved a basic understanding of Italian and wish to advance their proficiency to new levels. ITAL 211S serves students transitioning from intermediate to advanced, while ITAL 311S caters to those moving towards fluency. If you’re eager to dive deeper into the Italian language and culture beyond the classroom, this program is for you.

From language exchanges to dinner socials, day trips, cultural workshops, museum visits, and guided tours in Italian, every activity is an opportunity to practice the language and engage with local customs and traditions. The language exchanges occur weekly with Italian students from the universities of Perugia, and each activity is crafted to enhance linguistic skills while allowing students to delve into Italy’s rich cultural fabric.
