Umbra professor Dott. Giampiero Bevagna and Universita’ di Perugia scholar Dott.ssa Paola Chiurulla have developed an exciting new course for the fall which focuses on the history and art of Perugia and the surrounding region, and its role in the history of the Italian peninsula. Thed course is titled AH/HS 300: Perugia through the Ages: Art and History and takes place mostly on-site at various museums, churches, monuments and places of interest in Perugia and Assisi. Professor Bevagna wanted to create a course that exploits the amazingly varied and abundant art and architecture of the city.

 

When asked about the course Professor Bevagna replied, “Students study in Perugia for 4 months each semester and know very little about the city and the region of Umbria. I am often asked repeatedly about Perugia, its history and monuments by my students in other classes shortly after they develop a relationship and call their city “home” while studying abroad. I thought that the program must have a course on Perugia. And for me, nothing stimulates students’ interest more than teaching on-site, whether in a museum, in a church or next to the monuments. And that is exactly what we will do. This coupled with the fascinating 2500-year history of the city is what excites me most about this course. I asked local Professor and fellow Perugian Paola Chiurulla to team teach this course with me because I know of few scholars who possess her extensive knowledge of the city or her ability to captivate students. I think students will be amazed by what we have prepared for them.”
