New or Redesigned Course Proposal Form

The Umbra Institute requests that all professors utilize this form to propose new or redesigned courses for the Institute’s ever-evolving curriculum. Please provide detailed form submissions so that course evaluators can have a well-informed understanding of intended course content, transferability, and perceived student interest in the area of study.

  • Please consult www.umbra.org/courses to view disciplines and course codes currently used by the Umbra Institute.

  • You may select more than one.
  • Please attach a Word document that outlines your proposed course description and learning objectives. Please note that course descriptions should be approximately 3-4 sentences summarizing the overall content of the course as specifically as possible. Also, learning objectives should list what students will be able to do at the end of the course ("By the end of the semester, students will be able to..."). Each outcome should begin with an active verb that is observable and measurable since each of them needs to be linked to the specific assignment(s) used to assess students' success.

    Max. file size: 768 MB.
  • Please make sure that these clearly complement the learning objectives of your course.

  • For Umbra students, it is very important that courses transfer back as degree electives or requirements. To ensure this, faculty must consider how their proposed course would encourage student enrollment. It is advised that you compare your course to similar course titles and syllabi at our partnering institutions to confirm compatibility.
