Waiting for the Food Conference

In a couple of weeks the Umbra Institute will open its doors to a court of international Food Studies scholars for the 6th edition of the biennial Food Conference in Perugia.

A record number of applicants proposed papers for this edition of the Food Conference that will take place from the 13th to the 16th June 2024. The first conference was organized in 2012, just a year after Umbra’s program in Food, Sustainability, & Environment (then called the “Food Studies Program”) was launched. The conference, at which renowned food studies scholars Massimo Montanari and Ken Albala were the keynotes, drew fifty-four researchers from all over the world.

This sixth edition received almost double that number of applicants. The organizers at Umbra expect that the three-day conference will be a productive, collegial moment when senior scholars and up-and-coming graduate students can exchange ideas about hybridity in food, this year’s theme. Heather Paxson, a professor of Anthropology at MIT, will be the keynote speaker.
